Fundraising – Launch Event Raffle

Please help support our first project in Lancaster by joining our raffle!!!

 “Before School Breakfast Club”

Our aim is to target primary school children from families who are unable to provide them with breakfast. The issues and the extent of the problem have been highlighted to us by all of the local schools in Lancaster.

Our mission is to try and provide as many children with a healthy, nutritious, and filling breakfast, to help them concentrate, learn, elevate suffering, and prevent more serious health-related problems from developing.

The Foundation will use its recently opened community café, Food For Thought, to produce the breakfasts and provide a drop off service for the schools which are unable to collect the meals on behalf of the children. The Foundation will be working in partnership with all the local schools in Lancaster, to ensure that no child is missed or goes hungry again!

By entering our raffle and giving just £1.00 you will personally be helping to support our project and ensuring that we can put a stop to children going to school hungry!

The team are pleased to be opening the doors fully to the public following the successful completion of the food standards audit, with the café being given a five star rating today (Tuesday 2nd October).  Monday will see a flurry of activity both in the café and on social media with live broadcasts, healthy eating challenges, and also, the launch of the first community led project – The Before School Breakfast Club.

Group outside food for thought with city council mayor

Many thanks to those who attended our launch event, including the Mayor of Lancaster and everyone who dedicated their time and effort into helping us open.

Donna Truman, Community Liaison Officer for Food for Thought, has this to say about the opening of Food for Thoughts;

“We are so excited to be opening the doors to everyone and have a scheduled roll out to work with the schools across the area for the launch of our first project, The Before School Breakfast Club, which aims to deliver breakfast bags to a number of children and schools.  To enable us to start this project, we are running a raffle with some fantastic prizes.”

Donna continues, “The Before School Breakfast Project will be rolled out across the next few weeks. The team have already spoken to schools and identified the children and families which are in need of the most help.  It will cost us as little as 70p per day to provide a healthy breakfast bag to the 138 children we have identified so far, in doing so we hope to make a difference to child hunger which can have a knock-on effect to behaviour and concentration in the classroom and associated health related issues, including cognitive development, that can result from malnutrition.  We are using the opportunity to raise funds via our raffle which has seven fantastic prizes, including afternoon tea for two at The Midland, a selection of prizes from High Street retailers in Lancaster and a selection of wines and port, perfect for putting away for Christmas.  We have tickets on sale at the café or you can enter via our website at via TryBooking.”

The Food for Thought Before Breakfast Club Raffle will be running until 18th October 2018 where the team will be doing a live Facebook broadcast of the draw and announcing winners with a random number generator.  All funds raised will be going into this first project, with further projects under way that help with delivering parent and child cookery classes and, also a Christmas toy appeal.

The team behind Food for Thought would like to welcome everyone to Food for Thought and to get involved in our community projects moving forward.
